In February Melissa and I headed off for Copenhagen for a work trip. We added the weekend before my meetings to see the city. Some people told us it would be cold and to be prepared, so I brought two scarves. Obviously, California has made me soft, and dumb. Despite the chilly weather, we had a great time. Our first dinner was in a 200 year-old building across from the town center.
Here is the town center the next morning.
Missy is standing in front of the famous Tivoli Gardens. Closed for the winter, so we could only peer through the fences.
We took a tour and saw the changing of the guards at the royal palace.
I saw the mermaid made famous by a Danish Author writing children's books.
The next night we thought about eating here...but decided against it.
We saw a castle right in the middle of town.
And the grounds...Did I mention there was snow? Yes, it snowed almost every day.
We went to a really pretty, interesting area along a canal The picture below is a Light Boat. I took this especially for Mary and Berry McCarthy. It reminded me of their love for Lighthouses. I thought, if you were to live on this boat, it would be a light-house-boat!
Since we thought we might actually turn to ice, we ducked into a little pub for a hot chocolate. Eventually, I went for beer when it became obvious that Missy was not going to wake up from her jet-lag stupor. And I watched the snow fall outside.
After a while it was night, and time for dinner.
Missy wanted to eat at this cute place with sidewalk tables!
The next day, we went to the highlight (for some) of the trip: The Carlsburg
Brewery! And we drank beer. And some more beer. And then we ate little european snacks (not sure what they were). And then we drank some more beer.
We ate at a Kloister, something to do with nuns and a church. In any case, they didn't seem to mind us eating with them...
The next day we took another swing through town before Drew had to do some work. Missy found this, but I wouldn't let her buy anything.
Drew worked for a few days, and then we were off to Brussels to catch up with our great friend Isabelle. |
